Steve Baxter Dallas

Steve Baxter played varsity basketball his junior and senior years and was chosen All Tournament as a senior. He lettered in varsity baseball his junior and senior years and was selected as All District and District Leading Hitter as a senior. Craig Glickman, a close friend, points out that Steve will never mention it, but “As far as I recall, Steve still holds the Richardson High School batting average record of .517 after more than 45 years!”

Steve Baxter was in Young Life and Fellowship of Christian Athletes in both his junior and senior years. Steve was chosen to the Superintendent’s Council as a senior.

Steve has been in the real estate profession in the DFW area ever since 1977. Steve is the owner of Oakwood Property Company. Steve acquired his Broker’s License in 1978. He purchased his first quadplex in 1979 for $42,000 with another seminary student. This is when he started to learn the expertise to manage and remodel.

Steve somehow managed to survive the two real estate crashes which removed many people out of the business: the late 80's Savings and Loan banking crash and real estate depression, and, the 2008 subprime crash.

Steve has told them what he would like to be said about himself by his students: “I really knew that Cat Daddy (Steve’s nickname) loved me and cared deeply about me.”

Steve is most well-known for this quote: “I believe in the circle of life. The most important purpose I have is to be the very best father I can be to my two sons, to help train, develop, and love on them always!”

As a junior on the basketball team, Andrew Baxter was aware that he was not going to get to play much at all so he decided he wanted to be the best teammate on the basketball bench. He did this by encouraging the whole bench to completely support the players and be cheerleaders on their behalf. He helped all the bench to "go crazy" for the guys playing. It made a big difference in the Steve Baxter Dallas team spirit and most likely contributed to the fact that the team made it to the playoffs for the first time in many years.

Brennan Baxter, Andrew Baxter’s older brother, was a successful basketball player. Steve cherished Brennan’s success just as well and has had many enjoyable moments watching both of his sons’ successes on and off the Pearce High School basketball court.

Andrew Baxter always enjoyed Young Life in high school. The group met once a week, went on summer camps, and encouraged its members in their Christian faith. But BUCS was like Young Life at the next level, fellowship for college students anxious to integrate their university experience with their Christian faith.

Andrew is appreciative for the successes of high school, thankful for his popularity socially and successes athletically. But he would be the first to note that those successes are nothing in comparison to the privilege of knowing Christ and living for Him.

Furthermore, the Bible makes a challenge that goes something like this: "I call heaven and earth to record this day, that I have set before you life and death: therefore, choose life.”
