He lettered in varsity baseball his junior and senior years and was selected as All District and District Leading Hitter as a senior. Craig Glickman, a close friend, points out that Steve will never mention it, but “As far as I recall, Steve still holds the Richardson High School batting average record of .517 after more than 45 years!”

Steve Baxter was in Young Life and Fellowship of Christian Athletes in both his junior and senior years. Steve was chosen to the Superintendent’s Council as a senior.

As a junior on the basketball team, Andrew Baxter was aware that he was not going to get to play much at all so he decided he wanted to be the best teammate on the basketball bench. He did this by encouraging the whole bench to completely support the players and be cheerleaders on their behalf. He helped all the bench to "go crazy" for the guys playing. It made a big difference in the Steve Baxter Dallas team spirit and most likely contributed to the fact that the team made it to the playoffs for the first time in many years.

Brennan Baxter, Andrew Baxter’s older brother, was a successful basketball player. Steve cherished Brennan’s success just as well and has had many enjoyable moments watching both of his sons’ successes on and off the Pearce High School basketball court.
Andrew Baxter always enjoyed Young Life in high school. The group met once a week, went on summer camps, and encouraged its members in their Christian faith. But BUCS was like Young Life at the next level, fellowship for college students anxious to integrate their university experience with their Christian faith.
